I value my life too much to get out on the Dolphin Expressway in traffic with them at the wheel.
I generally use a hotel shuttle, occassionally Super Shuttle or a car service or sometimes a rental car. Never a cab to and from the airport.
Fortunately for the OP,
most taxis from MIA would take the 115 (Airport Expressway) to 95/195 then on to Bal Harbour, and avoid the Dolphin....^
For a 1 night stay, the taxi idea sounds fine and should cost $43 + tip each way (fixed rate)....

But as newyorkgeorge mentioned....maybe the hotel has some resonably priced options for transport that may work for your needs?
