My Dad passed away suddenly beginning of the 2nd week of Dec. Was supposed to leave for LAS on AC the following day, Then on the Fri, from LAS-CLE-YUL on CO, finally back to YZ the next Monday. After getting over the initial shock, I called AC to cancel the Tue. YYZ-LAS and re book to YUL same night. The AC agent was super compassionate and understanding, she canceled the LAS trip, did not ding me for the change or other fees and applied the credit against my YUL tkt. Same with my booked return a week later as I needed to stay in Montreal with my mom for a few days. Then I called CO to cancel the LAS-YUL fare. After explaining why I had to cancel, he said, sir before we go any farther, on behalf of all my fellow employees here at United and myself let us offer you our deepest condolences. They credited for the tickets without any fees. In both cases neither carrier asked me to send any docs proving my loss. You cannot believe how much the little things they did at that moment really meant at the time.
