I wonder if the writers of the article were looking at schedules prior to UA updating them? You could always do a one-stop EWR-BZN itinerary via ORD. Everything I have read has this billed as a non-stop so I don't think the stop in ORD is accurate.
Yeah, that must be the case. Noon to 6PM headed east would be 4 hours - no way it could include a stop. ITA is showing them as nonstop, too. Just poor reporting.
