Or do I have to wait to I get to the airport and get an assignment and a BP from AA in the US, or from BA once I get to LHR?
Also, the BA website says that the checked bag allowance LHR to Europe is one bag. AA allows two free checked bags. Will BA try to hit me up for a bag fee once I get to LHR, or will they just accept the two bags since it was an AA codeshare?
Since you're checking bags (i.e. have to see a check-in AAgent anyways), I wouldn't worry with OLCI in this case.
I've done RDU-LHR connecting to BA many, many times, and never had an issue with seats. Just check-in with AA, they will give you your BA boarding pass...I usually end up with a decent aisle towards the front.
Generally speaking, Americans are much more obsessed with pre-assigned seats than the rest of the world. When you get to the airport you'll still be ~12 hrs. before your BA flight, and they're usually still wide open.
And you won't be charged an extra bag fee once you get to LHR.
