Recently had to cancel a one-way flight due to doctor's recommendation (ear issues)...

Talked to AC Res and they said there is no provisions for illness and waiving of the change fee even with documentation from my physician. Is this correct or does one have to drop dead to get a full credit on a T+ ticket?
