I can't say I always do exhaustive searches up to my target travel time (Apr-May); however, they have been pretty thorough. What I've noticed:
- haven't seen a single 773 seat (LAX-AKL, AKL-LAX) since late last year
- seen a few 744 seat via SFO about a month ago that disappeared quick
- a few 772 YVR-AKL seats come and go (ex 2/25,26)
- 763 seats via LAX and SoPac/HNL to AKL are typically available
If my plans finalize and the stars align I'd probably be more likely to find availability that worked on *A UA F via SYD
Quick question for you, is the extra points to go F on UA compared to C in ANZ or AC worth it in your opinion (assuming you have a choice)?
I like spending the C class rewards redemption Trans Pacific and getting ANZ or AC which have no F class myself but have never tried F on carriers that offer it.
For me, even going to Europe, I am likely to pay cash for inexpensive economy on a budget airline or a seat sale somewhere and save my points for Trans Pacific C class travel.
Lets me go Trans Pacific more often and also can easily build up enough points to travel well under every 7 years to Aus/NZ (for 2 people) and never risk losing a mile.
