Lol, that is a pretty sad excuse. Most companies have 8+ hours rule some are 8.5 hours and there are some that allows 4 hours, which means you can book F on transcons. I know a guy who is a VP and his customer base is primarily the airlines [offers pricing/yield management tools/software], so he travels a ton to a wide range of conferences [IATA, etc], travels to meet with Amadeus and Sabre, travels between offices [based in HKG half of the time and in the US half of the time], and travels to meet with clients. He has a rather large budget for his work trips, however, he has to budget wisely and for some trips he has to fly in Y, but the SWUs helps keep that to a minimum. From my observations, it seems like he flies in C/F about 75-80% of the time for long-haul trips, so that is not too bad.
Your company's policy is one of the most inflexible travel policy I have ever heard only topping a Y-only policy.
I wonder what my new company's travel policy will be like even though I will not be doing any traveling for work. It is a Fortune 500 bank [and no I am not going to work in a banking branch

], so there might be some opportunities to transfer into a position that does require travel
Still plenty of years ahead of me, so we will find out what the future holds for me in due time

And I hope that a company with a much more flexible travel policy!
