Even US government workers on taxpayer tickets don't have to go in coach for a flight of this duration.
My company (a Fortune 50 company) allows travel in J only for travel that exceeds 7 hours IF you make 4 or more of these lengthy round-trip journeys a year. And even then it is subject to annual VP approval.
If you are an infrequent long-haul traveler, policy relegates you to Y, regardless of the length of the flights.
Of course, they also claim that this policy is "much more flexible than most of our industry peers" and that many companies have done away with business class travel altogether.
