I do not believe that this is true. Common sense says that if AA is routinely giving its elites freebies whose market value exceeds the fare paid by the passenger, AA would be bankrupt
I have traveled quite a few times to get miles worth more than te price piad.
I remember double eqm promos where there was also double rdms. More than one trip had double EQMS triple EQMs...With EXP/PLT bonuses, that made it quad RDMs. That's over 20K EQM, if you don't connect for transcon flights, a lot of which could be done for under $200. That was the year 125K EQM could get you a total of 12 SWUs.... I did SFO-LAX-BOS Roundtrips for 24088 RDM per trip
