points.com will probably be a ripoff - 1,000AM can only be traded for 175 AA miles (can someone check I'm using points.com correctly?).

Other than points.com, AM are ridiculously hard/punitive to transfer to another person, or to another program.

If the miles are already in your AM a/c (i.e. not sitting as points in some credit card), best to redeem whole tix for someone else. You may register 5 people other than yourself to use redeem tix (once registered, the name cannot be deleted except for a fee).

It is against AM's rules to sell redeem tix, but how can AM know?
