India's aviation regulator has stated they should be wound up. A third of their fleet is grounded because of a lack of spare parts. ATR cancelled Kingfisher's order last month. The dropping Indian Rupee is hindering them, they are not paying a number of bills and they owe $1.23 Billion to the banks. To remain viable they would need $250 million in the short run and $800 million in the long run, according to estimates - and these loans seem pretty unlikely given their debts, lack of fitness to fly and now postponement of the oneworld admission.
Don't hold your breath waiting for improvement - or for Mexicana to resume service soon; one is as likely to occur as the other, I am afraid.
I am in India on a business trip and I wanted to drop a quick note to concur with everything JDiver just said
Indian newspapers (especially the financial ones) are full of news reports about funding drying up for Kingfisher. They are unable to find a white knight of any sorts
In my opinion, booking any award travel tickets on Kingfisher is going to be a very bad decision. Oh sure AA will reinstate your miles, but you will definitely not be able to go on that trip on Kingfisher that you are planning.
