The Oberoi hotels look amazing but they are a bit out of budget. Besides getting a Chase Saphire Card or something similar and using the points for gift cards are there any better ways to get into an Oberoi, Leela, or Taj hotel using points/ miles?
We did an India trip last May. Hotels in India and throughout Asia are known for their personal service. We stayed at 3 different Taj properties and were treated like royalty at every property.

If you have AA miles, you can use them for redeeming hotel nights at www.useaamiles.com . Normally, I would never think about using AA miles for anything but air travel, we found some great hotel redemption values. For some properties, multi-night stays required less points per night than booking 1-night stays. Also, AA Elite status also showed a discounted rate than the standard number of miles.
