Ok-was looking to make a Nashville reservation at my "old standby" the Ren, when this hotel popped up as available. Decided to try it out-as it was $10 cheaper then the Ren.
First off, after some research, seems this was a Wyndham property. It was converted on 1/13/12 to Marriott.
Location: It is a little bit further from the "action", at 10th and Broadway, and also the ~2 or so blocks between 10-8 are pretty dark/deserted. I would want to walk with a group, and not alone. A few buildings are for sale-so hopefully the area gets better in the coming years. Otherwise-easy to get to.
Check-in: "Hello MR. PP40-WOW, you are my FIRST PlatPrem. Do we have a great room for you-it is my personal favorite suite, and we reserve these for all MR PlatPrem's." Quick and easy-benefits given were WiFi, and breakfast coupons.
Room: WONDERFUL! High ceiling suite-sitting room, 2 baths, king bedroom. It was on the side of the traintracks, and I did ONCE hear a train (as reported on TA), but nothing to worry about. I am not a light sleeper-and slept through any trains that may/may not have been present. Room had free water bottles, fridge, and microwave. Also included the Giles (?) soap. (I am not a name brand kinda guy)
Breakfast: 2 issues were present at the hotel. In fairness, I have contacted the GM but did not hear back from him/her on a resolution. (ie points or whatever-NOT that it will make me not stay here again-but a goodwill gesture would be nice) The bfast in the restaurant only is for $12. This will not get you a breakfast and a coffee. 2 eggs/meat/toast was $13, coffee $2 IIRC. BUT-it took 25 minutes for breakfast to come out. Was blamed on "new chef", etc. I left as the server was bringing it out. Never ate. (see taxi for why I left). Anyway-will see what the GM has to say.
Taxi/Valet: So I "pre-ordered" a taxi from the front desk. As it turns out so did another group. I got to the valet/taxi orderer, and NO TAXI! It was 8:10, ordered for 8:15. I asked if he ordered it, "YES" was the answer. Same for the guys behind me. At 8:25 I went to the front desk, as it was now 10 min late. The guy was standing on the street corner, desperately trying to "flag down" a non-existant cab. FD was calling him too, and I heard on the radio he forgot to order them! Finally at 8:35 ONE cab pulls in. Luckily the guys behind me were up for sharing and we all got one cab. This is a BIG

!
Overall-I will be back. It was a grand old hotel with lots of character!
