Within reason. The elderly should not be hauling on a bunch of crap they cant carry. Other than a small carry-on bag or purse, they shouldnt be lugging around a 30lb bag. If it doesnt fit underneath the seat, I'll take personal responsibility for my own situation and check the darn thing in.

A lot of times, people dont check things in to save $$$. So at this point, those who aren't able to handle all their items they bring on the plane are expecting others to help them in order for them to save money - which goes beyond being disrespectful and just downright selfish.
