You are correct in saying that the scenery is fantastic. I always stayed glued to the window once we had cleared the Bering Sea. But it was always nice to return to ANC and it's smooth runway.
Many of us on FT have heard the stories and some even dreamed that AS *could* resume service one day... - it did create amazing stories including deicing with vodka, and I have heard bits and pieces of yours- what all was stripped? I imagine the engines were still in-tack...
