If a company's website is malfunctioning for days, the IT dept is not doing their job properly, i.e. they are incompetent. there is best practice for assuring service availability. If you want to know more, ask me. I'm not cheap, but but probably a fraction of the cost of lost business.

In my experience, I have found that senior management often has no clue as to what's happening to the customer facing part of the business because people like "the web gurus" are afraid to tell them.
