Avios seem to use your name and address to decide which account to put your miles in. BAEC transfers ask for your BAEC number, so they know which account to add them to.

Tesco->BAEC took 24 hours for mine to appear. I'm sure someone will pop along shortly to tell you how long their Avios transfer took.
