I got the feeling they were embarrassed about the meal actually. I certainly would be if I was working in a business class cabin on a long haul international flight and got given that to hand out.
Same has happened to me a couple of times - as is widely published 2 of the J class meals are the same as what is on the Y class menu. I think this is the source of the foil trays sometimes,when the version served in china runs out. You get the same meal but in a foil tray! Not acceptable however.
Most recently happened to me SYD - BKK late december.
