I signed up for a 40,000 mile bonus offer for a new Citi checking account a few years ago.

No 1099 was issued for the miles.

However Citi from the opening, trying to collect miles, to my disgusted closing of the account displayed an incredible level of inefficiency in every step of the relationship.

Hard to believe the multitude of errors. The capper was Citi’s unwillingness to cash their own check from Citi to me for the account closure.

IMHO any Citi bank account is not worth the hassle. Don’t do it……

Not to completely slam the bank, Citi Cards for AA miles are mostly trouble free and very rewarding.
