4. Daughter is 2, so she is an infant. You could've put her on your / your wife's lap, but I won't fault you here. Despite this, there were a number of ways of avoiding the downgrade here. Since the downgrade was voluntary on your part, I should hope that the eVIPs were not redeemed here.

Best wishes and let us know how it turns out.
Bummer about the EC deal. That would have been nice.
I have no idea how that worked with the EXP.. Maybe he was IRROP or a FAM, I don't know. All I know is that after my wife had her 6A boarding pass in hand, during boarding the purser of all people advised her to slum in the back with us since the EXP showed up.
Our daughter is actually a wee bit over 2 years so she is not an infant and had her own ticket. Lap was not an option. AA upgraded us in FRA and then the gate told us that my wife and daughter can't fly in J since they can't sit together and no one (allegedly) wanted to move. I don't think that makes it a voluntary downgrade.

Thanks for your thoughts on this. Good to hear that we are somewhat aligned. I thinking 60K miles so we can do the trip over again, which is pretty close to your $400/20K miles.

We will see what AA does.
