Room upgrades, free internet, lounge access--- sure it is nice and something I would prefer would be improved/standardized. However the value of the program for me is in the value of the points - so I might be able to treat the missus to a nice vacation/city break..
Exactly. I think getting room upgrades is way overvalued. So you get a bigger room that most likely you won't use since you'll be out working or sight-seeing? And getting lounge access? Most lounges are not worth it. If you want free breakfast then stay at Holiday Inn Express or Staybridge.
I'll take my 50% Platinum bonus and Stay X get X,XXX points and double points, etc... And use them for Pointbreaks (which is no doubt the best hotel redemption value in the industry) and hotels in high profile cities (NYC, San Fran...). I will also take my PC Visa card and their annual free night and 5x hotel points... How many Hotel credit cards give you a free night that can be redemmed at any of their hotels?
