Nice idea, but the lap child doesn't get a boarding pass, because they have no seat assignment. Typically we got a little piece of paper stapled onto the adult's boarding pass, and no mileage credit (3 transpacific flights before our daughter was 2).
On another poster's comments, we had no problem getting mileage credit for the paid seats for our under 2's- in fact, one was *A Gold...
My memory is very hazy on this, but 12 years ago, I thought we got a boarding pass on a United flight for our then toddler, SFO-CDG. I can't recall if she got miles for the flight as a lap infant. I do recall that taking a toddler to Paris was a really bad idea.
