And if lack of knowledge of the workings of thouse controls is considered to be a aspect of the security then there is a SERIOUS security problem in the setup.
The OP didn't say that the FA didn't know how to turn it down just that she couldn't discuss the controls.
And as later they did turn it down they obviously know how to.
