Kapama was willing to reaccommodate us at their River lodge, but it was inferior to their Karula Lodge, which apparently was destroyed. We believed their tented camps may have also been affected, but can't confirm.
Regardless, we checked around with many, if not most of the other game lodges. Some could accommodate, but none were able to give us the deal we had at Kapama, and frankly, we've been worried about the quality of game viewing post-floods in the area. Have read heard reports that some roads are inaccessible to some of the lodges' vehicles and while they are working to get back up to speed, it could be awhile.
That said, we shifted our entire game lodge experience westward to Madikwe. Have heard that in some instances it can be better than Kruger and not. Would appreciate feedback or folks' experience on or with Madikwe. One Kruger lodge rep mentioned that in Madikwe game vehicles can't go offroad by more than 400m - is that true? Have researched the game reserve through multiple sites online and can't find any reference to it. That said, when I revisit our photos and memories from our 2003 Ulusaba experience, we never went offroad by that much in order to see game, so not sure if this is even an issue.
Thanks!
