Well, does this count:
I couldn't find the keys to my Nissan Maxima Hertz rental. Hertz told me that if I had really lost them, due to the security system device with computer chip, it would cost me to $298 to tow and reprogram. (I later verified that this was a fair price, but they should've had another key themselves.)
Right before the gentlemen from Hertz arrived to give me another car and had already called for tow, I had remembered hearing the keys bounce when I threw stuff on this very low coffee table at the Holiday Inn in Punta Gorda, Florida. I found them in the trash can, covered with all sorts of coffee supplies and used tissues.
Hertz man left with a big frown on his face.
