Suppose they actually replaced all their fleet of 37 and 50 seaters with a fleet of 74 seaters. There would be fewer 74 seaters and a necessarily more sparse schedule, making it harder for you to schedule your travel needs.
In general, the YEG/YYC flights I've been on have always been full out of YQR. It may be that AC has hit demand just right, or that they're giving away traffic to WS as a larger aircraft could likely still service the same number of flights with more capacity. However, they'd probably lose out on yield. UA into DEN out of YQR is in a similar situation, I think. I haven't been on a flight in this route this year that wasn't full or oversold (where they asked for volunteers) and I've been to or fro 4 times now. Most of my flights last year seemed to be the same.
I haven't been on the Dash in a long time so can't comment on their condition, but I mostly haven't had any complaints about the RJs. Unike most people, I kind of like them and prefer them over WS's 737s.
