I'd book the longer connection if you can. Better safe than sorry.

I've only cleared Canada Customs at Calgary once (ex-SAN) and our 90-minute connection time which should have been comfortable turned into 15 minutes late leaving San Diego, losing another 15 minutes in the air, and getting stuck in Customs and security for 70 minutes.

Luckily our next flight was delayed by 12 minutes, so we got on just prior to push-off.
