I prefer luxury equally to performance/handling; performance/handling alone is insufficient to trump luxury. For a car that costs $40K, it better have a luxurious interior. I think BMW has finally recognized that, as the 6th generation, 2012 3-series has a much improved interior.
The interior may be better, but I sat in one of these at the detroit auto show, and I was really shocked at how little shoulder room there seemed to be. I haven't driven the models before this so I'm not sure if that's a change or not, but I don't think I'd find the thing very comfortable as a result. Now, I'll admit I'm definitely somewhat overweight, but I've never run into this (at least to this degree) on any other car that I've gotten into before. Really kinda took me by surprise.
