I'd vote for going back to the previous policy, where only status PAX could pre select seats and paid for seat choice didn't exist.
It was easier getting your prefered seat choice as a PAX with status previously.
I fly a lot and spend a lot of money with BA and the previous policy, where only status PAX could pre select seats, worked very well for me.
It was a great Gold/silver perk which now has been watered down by BA selling seat selection to all that want it.
