I never go to the Post Office for my passport. I don't like dealing with multiple layers. If I ever could be without my passport for more than 2 weeks (not likely), I would send directly to the Passport Agency. As it is, I just go in.

I do think it should be a requirement to have the ears visible in passport photographs. Ears are a very useful reference point when an immigration officer compares a passport photograph to the person standing in front of him.
You Canucks have WAY too many rules about passport photos. The no smile thing is especially lame. Passport photos is one place where the US seems to be better behaved that other countries. No problem with smiles.
