Quite honestly I find AF flights to be tolerable if not simple connections at CDG. Any flights not going through 2E are a complete mess.

That being said, I found the opposite route of the OP to be a nightmare (CDG-IAD-...) due to the connection at IAD where after clearing customs I was directed to check in to my connection AT THE MAIN TICKET COUNTER like I had just arrived at the airport.
