Amex Platinum Emergency Card Replacement [Canada vs others]
US Platinum Card holders: does Amex provide better service to you?
A warning to Canadian Amex Platinum holders: "emergency: card replacement involves the following steps.
1. You call in and your current (missing) card is cancelled irreversibly.
2. During that call, you ask for a lightning-fast, instant card replacement.
3. You wait at least 2 days, more if you're overseas, because the "request" is sent to an internal department in Markham ON BY FAX!!! and that department works 8:30am-5pm M-F only.
Soooo, if, like me, you're in Bangkok and you lose your card on a Saturday and you're flying out Tuesday morning, you'll not have your card. If you visit the local Amex office, which has inventory and can physically create a card for you in minutes, you're still out of luck, because they can't do it without permission from the Canadian people that never go to the office.
This is their flagship product, the highest product they publicly advertise. The annual fee is CDN$399. Wow.
