iPad Apps for flying
For gaming, Angry Birds is a great time waster/passer.... good to turn the sound off, however!

On a more cerebral note, when you update (pull down on the main page) the NY Times App will download all the current NYT news/features etc. If you connect just before leaving to wireless at the AC or in the airport, you can then read offline while in the air for a reasonably long length of time.

NYT app is free if you have any kind of delivery subscription, Angry Birds is 99 cents, and a must-have anyhow!
