I do think BA handled this well and in your shoes I would try a 'softly softly' approach first. I think I would look for either miles refunded (2 x times of course), an upgrade to F for 2 on my next longhaul flight or perhaps a refund of my 241 voucher. I would consider those to be fair.
This would be on top of my out of pocket expenses (ie hotel and so on).
If you wish to go the litigious route, the fact it is a reward booking is of no consequence - the EU directive makes specific mention that such flights are included.

Thanks BAH, any of those would seem fair to me also. I guess the route is a letter to customer services suggesting the correct compensation?
