There is, but generally an aircraft going tech is not considered to be 'extraordinary circumstance'. The reasoning here is that BA is big enough and worldly-wise enough to realise that planes do go tech and should be able to deal with this accordingly.

I do think BA handled this well and in your shoes I would try a 'softly softly' approach first. I think I would look for either miles refunded (2 x times of course), an upgrade to F for 2 on my next longhaul flight or perhaps a refund of my 241 voucher. I would consider those to be fair.

This would be on top of my out of pocket expenses (ie hotel and so on).

If you wish to go the litigious route, the fact it is a reward booking is of no consequence - the EU directive makes specific mention that such flights are included.
