I am not suprised at all the stories recently about China. For some reason when DEQM went in AA was no where close to being competitive in price for short trips.
Before DEQM I could find prices to PEK/PVG for about $700 with no three night layover requirements and in December all these three day layover requirements kicked in and now starting on Jan 9 for PEK/PVG there is a 5 night layover requirement on the cheapest fares. Which effectively means no simple MRs to China.
