I was seated in an exit row on NRT-YYZ flight in 2010 and the flight attendant gave instructions in Japanese to the 2 people in the exit row behind me. I asked the attendant if they spoke English or French and she said "No but its ok because I speak Japanese" Since then I have carried a copy of the rule with me on all flights.
