EWR - LAX: $87 in 1974 = $396.95 in 2011. Double that for a "commercial airline" as stated in the article.

When people talk about "the golden age" of air travel, I remind them it took alot of gold to fly on an airplane back in "the good ole days." The fact that anyone can hop on a transcon for about $150 one way, all in is remarkable.
