Whe I arrived at NRT last Friday my index finger just would not give a print. The agent checked my hand and told me my skin was too dry to work. Coming back last Monday I had 3 good and one marginal with Global Entry. I suspect the problems you are having recently are possibly due to the winter dryness.
I arrived in NRT on 1/20/12, and also had fingerprint problems--it took 3 tries to get mine to register. But I think in this instance I didn't lay may fingers perfectly flat and all the way up to the end.
