I've conceded defeat in the battle to get the 10x Avios introductory offer.

Spoke to Avios last night, who gave me a direct number for the department in Lloyds which deals with the Avios Duo credit cards. Got through to them this morning, explained the issue (account opened, cards arrived, but seeking definite confirmation of eligibility for the 10x offer before putting major spend on the Lloyds Amex card). Helpful lady seemed to understand why I wanted this, and put me on hold while she spoke to the "New Business" department.

She came back with the answer I didn't want to hear (but was rather expecting): because I recently had the standard Lloyds Avios Duo cards, my Premier account was considered an "upgrade" and not eligible for any kind of introductory offer. After all, I had received an introductory bonus on the other card, so couldn't expect another bonus. "But no!", I cried. "I did not receive any bonus whatsoever from the other cards" [rather ashamed to admit that here, but it's actually true!]. Even so, if you're had cards before, then not eligible for any introductory bonuses. She didn't say how far back they checked, but I got the impression it could be quite a long time.

Now just gathering strength to get on to customer services to close the account, and try to ensure I get a full refund of the £50 annual fee (charged to the card on the very day the new "upgrade" account was opened.

Oh well, some you win and ....
