To be fair ... it's been a really long time since someone took the Capitol Building and flew it across halfway the country in order to crash it into another building.

Fixed platforms provide a different threat model than mobile platforms.

That's not to say that the way that TSA handles airport security is the best way. But there are legitimate differences that need to be acknowledged; comparing security in buildings and security in airports is a little like comparing apples and oranges.
