A short report on the LAX-HND-LAX flights in January 2012 (new schedule, midnight departures both ways), in case this question comes up.
BE both ways, "BE light" service both ways. Specifically, on the outbound: warm nuts, followed by the choice of a Japanese meal (all on one tray; aemono, sakizuke, main course -- chicken, miso soup, rice). A choice of the Western meal (only one option, beef) or a "light and quick" tray. Even "lighter" service on the return: cold nut mix, and a choice of a Japanese meal (same as above, but with salmon as a main course) and one Western option, roasted pork.
And yes, still shuttled to TBIT on arrival to LAX. Was pretty efficient (especially having GE), but still an inconvenience, of course. Asked a red coat, was told that T5 immigration/customs close at about 2 pm now.
Very light load in BE both ways (10 rev pax on the outbound, 9 or 10 NRSA; 8 rev pax on the inbound, don't know how many NRSAs, but the back BE cabin had only 2 paxs).
Great airport (love HND, hands down winner over NRT) and very convenient flight times if you can sleep at night on the plane and need to maximize your day hours on both ends. Not so great aircraft (A330, with old style seats and really mediocre IFE) and usual DL service: nothing horrible but not in any way impressive.
