When do companion upgrades clear if on different reservations?

Complimentary Companion Upgrades

You and a traveling companion may both enjoy the comfort of our First or Business Class cabins when traveling on Delta and Delta Connection carriers.

Your traveling companion must be a SkyMiles member and traveling on the same flight. Companions are cleared no sooner than 24 hours in advance of departure.

Medallion members and their companions must be booked in a revenue class of service: Y, B, M, H, Q, K, L, U, or T.

Companion Upgrades are not available for travel on Award Tickets or Pay with Miles.

Companion upgrades must be requested. If you and your companion are in the same reservation you can request your companion upgrade at delta.com. Otherwise, requests must be made over the phone with Reservations or at the airport.

How It Works

You and companion have different reservation numbers:
Your upgrade will clear based on your individual member status and confirmation window. Your companion’s will clear no sooner than 24 hours prior to the flight's departure.

You and companion share same reservation number:
Both your upgrades will clear no sooner than 24 hours prior to the flight's departure.

Travel Companion Upgrades for Medallion Members

The Medallion® member and the traveling companion must fly together on the same flights.
The traveling companion must be a SkyMiles member.
Upgrades will be confirmed using the automated upgrade process based on seat availability, time before departure, fare class purchased, and the lower of the two SkyMiles membership levels.
Upgrades will be confirmed for both passengers at the same time. The automated upgrade process will not clear upgrade requests for one passenger with the other still on request. OP NOTE: This does not differentiate if on the same reservation or not.
Upgrades are not valid for companions who are general SkyMiles members and are booked on Award Travel Pay with Miles award tickets.

So as a GM & Base Member (traveler & companion) traveling on different PNRs do we clear 1) 3 days prior for me and 24 hrs prior for companion or 2) 24 hours prior for both me and companion?

In either case we will be after Full Y, DM, PM and GM (on higher fare).
