I don't think it was just that - it was pretty clear from the outset that many (most) though he should claim for the compensation, though there was some debate as to whether it'd be a valid claim.
The OP seems to hagve wanted more done at the time the flight was delayed. What that expectation was (if not lounge access) is what's being asked.
