I always tick "yes" when travelling to GVA. I have my ID card but also carry my passport. No problem IME.

BTW does anyone know if the kiosk also accept the cards instead of passports?

EDIT: I now see you said something about entering the ID card number? I've never seen that. Maybe it has to do with the UK specific API?
