If you truly want a unique hotel experience while in Portland, try any of the McMenamin's hotels. Most also have a restaurant/bar, movie theater, or soaking pool at the same location. For example, the Kennedy School has hotel rooms in a renovated middle school, and each room has a theme and is decorated in a "scholarly" way.
