But there is a gate 120. Maybe they just changed in the last minute because gate 120 is somewhere halfway between LA and SF, and 42 is more convenient. On my return to LA, they moved us from 46 to 120 and that was very annoying.

Ie, when they scan my LAX-DFW boarding pass (and that boarding pass only), can they see if I'm connecting to an international flight at DFW? (Given that AA only flies nonstop from LAX to about 3 overseas cities, most of my all-AA-metal flights overseas involve connections in another AA hub.)
It's itineraries. I had a DFW-SFO-HKG and the DFW-SFO was on AA metal. The TSA checker said that it wouldn't work. It was an AA all-partner award though that included CX, so I'm not sure what would have happened if it were DFW-LAX-NRT or something all AA.
