No travel agency ever tells you that the ticket is non-changeable. I just looked at the Vayama terms and conditions, and they clearly say "If allowed by the airline" for refunds and changes. If you want to get a copy of the fare rules for your ticket, you can only get it from the airline.
Your situation is unfortunate, but I don't think this is Vayama's fault.
