I am currently staying at Grand Hyatt Seoul, in room 660, a King Suite. The recently rennovated room is very nice, nothing of which I can complain about. However, the staff I have met so far are cold, unflexible, sometimes stupid.

I came to stay at the hotel with my friend who is a Platinum. We booked ourselves in two King rooms. My friend doesn't have Club access, but I am a Diamond so I deliberately booked my room for two people in the hope that my friend can get Club access (I am just by myself). At check-in, the Club people refused to grant my friend club access and my friend was asked for 60,000 won a day in order to have club access. I was put on the spot because my friend assumed that she would have club access. I had no choice but to pay.

And then there was this problem with the air conditioner. Although it is called an air conditioner, it only blows hot air out. Okay, I know we are in winter but I am a cold temperature person. I dont like the stuffy feeling of heater and I normally set the room at freezing cold temperature. It was so hot I couldnt sleep well yesterday night.

I rang the concierge to ask if there was anything I could do as the air conditioner was blowing hot air out even though I set the temperature at 15 degrees. The concierge said "you can switch off the air conditioner", which I did, but the room never gets cold and there was no fresh air circulation. In additon, my room faces east, so by 10 am, the sunlight was really heating up my room.

I rang the concierge again, and they just sent a guy to bring a fan to my room. His face was really cold, no smile. He just dumped the fan and walked outside, never said a word. I had to plug in the fan myself.

Anyway, I think it might have been my luck. I have had a horrible stay at Hyatt Regency Incheon the night before, and now I am getting really bad service by Grand hyatt Seoul. Its really a shame because their hardware is really nice. I think I will stick with Park Hyatt Seoul next time I visit Korea.
