When an agent (airline) checks your passport/visa, it populates a field in the computer. We motitor that list on Intl flights. If any names remain on the unchecked list, we find those people (page them) and update that field. I work for UA, but I know other carriers have similar subroutines in their software. We cannot close out our flighs with names still on the list.
